  • All I can offer is the Pros and Cons of America, though I would love to live in England, given the opportunity. Pros of America are our government activism, cool cities like NYC and San Francisco, and... Well, I'm not sure what else to add. I'm not a huge fan of America, but I like it well enough. Cons are Republicans (not all of them, just the Fundamentalists and crazy traditionalists who want to keep our country from moving forward), health care, college tuition costs, overall self-centered attitude, etc, etc. I could think of many more things, but I'll stop for now. Now someone from England has to answer for the rest.
  • Im from England. Pros - - Incredible history everywhere you look. From castles, ancient stone circles, architecture spanning centuries, hillside carvings, palaces, 500 year old pubs, etc - Everything is close. You can drive from London to Scotland in 7 hours and London to Cornwall in 4 hours. Weekend trip options are endless. Bath, Bristol, Cornwall, Northumberland, Oxford, Cotswolds, Lake District, Brighton, Dorset Jurassic Coast, etc - Beautiful countryside. England is an incredibly diverse country for such a small land mass. Lovely beaches, cliffs, gorges, rolling hills, ancient villages, mountains (small ones). - Culture. Im a Londoner and London is an incredible place and definitely a pro of England. It is the most culturally diverse city in the world, except maybe Mumbai, and has such a mix of architecture, restaurants, clubs, bars, pubs, theatres, parks, etc. You could live in London for 1000 years and not run out of things to do. Also incredible sights, often seeing medieval buildings next to 21st century buildings (such as the Gherkin and tower of London) Epic - Transport. Has a bad rep but road system is good with everywhere linked by motorways. London underground most extensive in the world. and trains everywhere. - Food. Again a bad rep but England has picked its game up now and has numerous top 100 world restaurants. - Close to other countries. Train to Paris. Flights to the alpes in an hour. Middle east 4 hours. NYC 6 hrs. Italy 2 hrs. As opposed to <a href="http://www.travels.com/destinations/australia-new-zealand/" title="australia" style="", class="stronglinks" target="_blank" />Australia</a> which is fairly out on a limb. Cons - - Price. Expensive especially in London. Although once you know where to look it is fine. I regularly eat out at lovely Thai restaurants in London for £15 for two courses. However drinks are expensive anywhere (£8 for a cocktail is standard) - Weather. Had to mention it. It does suck. Its not a myth. Winter has an average temp of 3.5 degrees celcius and is often below freezing and days are very short getting dark at 4 oclock in December. However Summer days are long, dark at 9.30pm and when it is nice weather we appreciate it so much more. Summer can be absolutely stunning. It just doesnt last very long usually - Road fines. Traffic wardens, cameras everywhere. If you dont know what you are doing, you will have to dish out hundreds of pounds on fines, especially in london. Its beyond a joke now. Thats about it. Basically England is an incredible place to live, and once you get used to its indiosyncracies, and dodgy weather, its amazing.
