Whats meant by Active directory service? what s the use of this one? why would we like to install ADS in windows 2000 server? its a service related to the purpose of web, ? how it will be useful?? can u give the definition and explain me briefly?

    Active directory simply means a structure supported by Windows® 2000 that lets any object on a network be tracked and located. Active Directory is the directory service used in Windows 2000 Server and provides the foundation for Windows 2000 distributed networks.

    Active directory is nothing but a database that holds information about component locations, users, groups, passwords, security, and other COM information. Some of this information is currently stored in the Registry, but will eventually (with Windows 2000) be moved to the Active Directory.

    You should talk to your network administrator ADS is not a simple or trivial thing.
