You lose the right to mock somebody who refuses to vote. Jury duty is an important part of the democratic process, one in which a single vote CAN make a difference.
I did it once and they sent me a letter. Saying that I could be charge with a ticket and seve time.
I toss them all the time. Unless it is delivered Certified mail or return receipt requested They can threaten you all they want. They just cant do anything to you.
in the usa you go to jail.
If you just don't show up without giving a prior reason, the court will sent law enforcement for you.
In the uk, if you don't have a really good reason, I think you can cop a pretty hefty fine. Its definetly an offence.
I remember reading something in our local news years ago where a guy received a summons to report for jury duty on a particular day. He sends a letter back to court saying that he'd be happy to serve on the jury, but his fee was $100 per hour. The judge sends a letter back telling him that if doesn't show up, he'll have him arrested for contempt of court.
I don't know why people freak out so much about jury duty. I find jury duty to be quite interesting.

Seriously, do you think a single vote makes ANY difference at all? If you do, then I'd suggest you sign up for a course in mathematics immediately..
Is being subjugated to the will of the state, and forced to work for free considered an "important part of the demoncratic process" ??? (misspelling intentional) Seriously.?. seems more like slavery to me.
