A home-based detox program should be considered only after consultation with a physician or qualified health care practitioner specializing in psychiatry and/or addiction medicine. Depending on the extent of your son's abuse and addiction, opioid withdrawal may well be an acute medical emergency. This should never be attempted without clinical supervision.
