Typically once you have established residency in the state you can file in that state. Laws vary from state to state so you really need to get legal advice from an established authority in the state.

If money is a problem call the State Bar of Florida and ask if there are any attorneys who work on a sliding scale. You can also try legal aid and woman's organizations in your area. A man might seek assistance through a similar organization.
