I suffered a heart attack while working as a volunteer firefighter. I had to be revived. What amount of settlement can I expect from workmans compensation?

    Are volunteer firemen paid by the governmnet or by private citizens?

    Need to know. will make a difference in the answer.

    That depends. How much was your medical costs? How much will your future medical costs be? How much work did you miss? How much work will you miss?

    There is no “pain and suffering” or punitive damage awards in workers compensation. You will get your medical bills paid and you will get the statutory rate for missed work (usually 66-75% of your normal salary).

    Of course, this all assumes that the heart attack was a result of your work. Just because you happened to be at work when you had a heart attack does not mean it was a work related injury.
