In the state of missouri is it legal for a 21 year old male to be associated with a 16going on 17 year old female even if he claims he jjust wants a "close relationship" and will wait till shes17 to open up more to her and his mother doesnt approve

    The age of consent in Missouri is 17. The only thing that ever matters in these cases is whether or not you're having sex -- none of the stuff about "close relationship" or "being associated" or opening up or her mother's approval are in any way even slightly relevant. What matters is whether or not you're having sex.

    She must be 17 in Missouri to do that legally. You can hang out and have heart-to-hearts all you want until then.

    "Associated with"? What the heck does that mean?

    When my kids were in school they were "associated with" teachers of both genders in a wide age range. They've been "associated with" employers, friends, neighbors and relatives of all ages.

    When my daughter was dating I let her know that I wanted to meet the boys that she saw, but I wasn't hard-assed about demanding to interview every male she even spoke with, either.

    At a certain point kids are no longer under our thumbs, and that's one of the reasons that jurisdictions set up "age of consent" laws. We recognize that not only can we not control our kids' every action, but it's not advisable to try.
