Help answer this question below.
Your cat is trying to train you into treating him nicely.
He doesn't yet understand that it's necessary to give you a treat or a purr each time you do something good for him. So he's stuck with just the negative reinforcement of laying on the ground to resist you.
You may need to obey him a little more carefully, to protect yourself from little bites or scratches. But in general, the more you pet him and pamper him and give him the best seat in the house, then the more he will give you little perks like being able to hold him or walk with him on a leash.
It can be difficult to obey in this stage of your development, but well worth it in the long run! A good cat owner should last a lifetime, and provide many years of comfort and service to the feline. Good luck!
My cat did that too! It was hilarious to watch - but not helpful.
He just doesn't like having it around him. If you're using a harness with your leash - try putting just the harness part on him for a little while each day until he gets used to having just that part on. Try giving him a treat every time you put it on him. Once he's good with that, then try reattaching the leash - but don't pull. Just put it on, and give the cat a treat. Then take it off again. Then try putting it on (give a treat) and follow him with the leash on, but don't pull on it. Let him lead. Give a treat, and take it off. Just repeat that until he's okay with having both the harness and leash on him. Then, since he's comfortable with the setup, you can try directing him a little with the leash - but don't really pull on it - it will probably just scare him. Try giving him a little light tug - and hold a treat in the direction of your tug so he has to go where you want him to go to get his treat. Do it all indoors until you're sure he's confident and comfortable with the leash.
Eventually, he will probably get used to it, and even look forward to it (especially since it means he gets a treat and a trip outside). But don't jerk him around at all, and don't drag him anymore. If he doesn't seem to be getting used to it - then maybe you just shouldn't use it.
He doesnt like having something on his neck and he certainly doesnt like being pulled.
You will have to be patient to train him. How about getting him a harness instead. Less stressful and less chance of him getting strangled.
Try teaching him that putting on the leash is a good thing... when he's in it, reward him with a treat. The more you put it on him everyday reward him for it... then he'll get use to it :)
Cats are more independent animals where as dogs are more co-dependent. It will be more difficult to train a cat to use a leash depending on it's personality. Basically when you put that leash on, your cat thought, "HA!"
With patience and time. You can break a cat of just about anything.
He's pretending to be paralyzed so you will take it off. Trust me, my cats did this every time I put a collar on them. Especially the older one. I just finally left him on the floor and started batting his toys around. When he realized I wasn't falling for his little ruse, he got up and started playing. Then he'd remember the collar and fall down again! Or he'd lean his shoulder on the floor and drag himself backwards trying to rub it off. They get used to it eventually, but always check it to make sure it isn't getting too tight. They may not look as if they've grown any in a few weeks, but they really have, and you don't want the collar digging into their neck.
Why does my cat lick the air when I rub his lower back?

You're reading I bought my cat a leash and when I put it on him, he lays on the floor and won't walk. I drag him a little to see if he will get up and he won't. Why does he do this? Is he being stubborn because he doesn't like it?
