what generation is it? there is a way to manually reset it
for regular ipods/ipod videos, i believe you hold down the center 'select' button and the menu button at the same time, for about 5 seconds
iTunes on the Mac has a progress bar at the top that allows one to move back/forth within a song. Is that feature on the iPhone's iPod?
