... float in what? ... tin will float in mercury ... ... for it to float in water, it will have to be shaped in some sort of boat-like or bowl-like shape so that there is plenty of air within the displaced volume of water occupied by the tin ... this is why large ships & boats made of steel and concrete can stay afloat and not sink ... they have "air spaces" ...

Anything that has mass can float. Put anything in deep space - it floats! The planet Saturn will float in water. A tin boat will float in water as will a mega-ton supertanker. floating in what?
