It depends on where you live. Here, you get your learners, and then you have to do 50 hours driving time, and THEN you get your license. There is no official limit on how long you have to have your learners for.
Your really supposed to hold a permit for a year. However, you have to do 50 hours of driving with a parent/guardian and 10 hours of night time driving. But it just really depends on when you got ur permit. I got my permit in November, and I held it up until now, and tomorrow Im taking a driving test. You, on the other case can keep your permit for 6 months (if you get your 50hrs of driving and 10 hrs of night time driving in) and then go sign up for drivers ed classes. Thats how my best friend did it.
In my state you can. You might want to check your state's DMV site just to be sure though. :)
