Offensive or blatantly ridiculous questions will get a negative from me.

With answers, I will only downrate if someone's answer is completely and utterly unhelpful, offensive, or unnecessarily mean spirited.

I agree with most of the others here. I will downgrade a question or answer ONLY if I find it truly offense, and I will NEVER seek out a user's other questions and answers to downgrade (which has happened to me within the last hour).

I personally don't downrate because I disagree with the answer. If I don't like it, the worst I would do would be to give no points, but some of the time, if the answer is well thought out and researched, it might get points despite my disagreeing with it. Negatives, for me, are for those who are really offensive or insulting. Of course, that can be subjective, i know, but I try not to be too critical. I wish I could say the same for some others on here, though. Some are too harsh and too narrow-minded.

    John.

    I downrate things that are:

    a) Blatently offensive.
    b) Completley useless to everyone.
    c) Completley lacking any hint of the English language, to the point where you can't even read the question.

I only downgrade the offensive, but otherwise - live & let live.

  • I downgrade things that are purposefully offensive and/or don't attempt to answer a question.
