Question

Help answer this question below.

I'm getting really pissed off. AB's "duplicate" search isn't doing it's damn job, and now I have a Q rejected as a dupe. How is it that others can find the duplicate, and I cannot? WHY is this information unavailable to me!

This problem seems to get worse whenever AB hires a new staff moderator or when they are busy with whatever. When they are busy they seem to be much quicker to just accept the duplicate report. Just recently my Guide to Trollery was rejected as spam due to this. I wrote to Staff and it was reinstated.

I see many questions that are not really related to each other being rejected as duplicates. I have received many comments to old questions asking what the h*ll I am talking about when this happens because the question I asked was merged into a question that had little to no resemblance to the one I answered.

Conversely, I have tried to report things that are duplicates that are EXACTLY the same as other questions, such as when AB glitches and a question posts 3-4 times, and the search engine does not turn up the others. However, other questions come up that are barely related to not related at all.

I would suggest feedbacking when you get one of your questions rejected that you do not believe is a duplicate. I have heard of people doing that and getting the question reinstated.

Forget Answerbag's search engine. Use Google. Here's how:

Type the following in Google's text box (no quotation marks) "site:www.answerbag.com" followed by the key words of your prospective question. That syntax tells Google to limit its search to Answerbag.com

    Example:

site:www.answerbag.com Is this a duplicate question?

Good luck from now on :)

That's happened to me on several occasions, too.

    And, it does bother me.

I never seek to break any of the rules. The moderators are always so quick to give the zealous flagger points for moderating me.

My questions are ALL wrongly recategorized.
I have soooo much rejected/deleted content - well - too much for me.

Best of all, my moderation is only at 95%. As if the other 5% I suggested is worthless.

I no longer moderate. I think it's bad karma.

I hate that all my questions are under "Deep Thoughts" - I am fastidious and will say when the thoughts are supposed to be deep, thank you all very much.

In the mean time, let's all face it. There are some points thirsty thieves lurking the AB moderation side of things. They hit hard, and they are all too quick to stalk for the mods. Ah well, until mod points put dinner on my table, answers in my head, and love in my heart, I say - I have better ways to spend my time.

Sorry you are experiencing this too, Phillis.

I have been trying to flag dupes all day and I know they are dupes but they are not coming up for me either. Then they get upset if we complain about unfairly getting our questions rejected. If they would fix the glitches then the questions would show and people wouldn't be nearly as mad.

    Heh!

    Join the choir, Phillis!

Right now, I think the search engine bugs are the only major bugs remaining to be fixed. Used to be pretty good, but it's sucked for a few months now.

I only flag dupes that I run across directly right now. I don't rely on the search engine at all.

LOl...I have had some fun times dealing with duplicates. I asked 15 of them in one night just for fun after receiving an email telling me i duplicated a question. the funny part was, the questions were not even the same, a little but the answer were different. I had a lot o fun with my Duplicate questions. Not all of them were duplicates but they had the word duplicate in them. Good times.

I think we all have the same problem unless you go all round the houses to find them. That is why I very rarely flag a Dupe because if it is not as Obvious as @is the Sky Blue/'' they refuse them.

They will accept completely diverse questions as dupes but not ones that are obvious.
I am sick of Moderators that cannot do their jobs properly and messing up percentages.

I am afraid I wrote and told them recently and sent back a list of Refused flags that I had not even Flagged but they refused them on my account.

I also get very annoyed when I find all the crap question in Deep Thoughts. it is a joke.

I have already had one moan about categories tonight .They refuse useful ones and accept a load of rubbish.

    Shatzee coming back?

Its happened to me several times. I always search for duplicates and 99% of the time, dont find one, so I post only to later be rejected. Hopefully they could either improve the search bar on that somehow.

:-) My dears! Why to waste time upon something not useful, life is too valuable to waste upon useless things. They have storage to keep the dupes and spam, so let them have it. When they actually get to start annoy, then either they will deal with it their selves or we will see another message on every page of AB, about help, fair enough?
