Help answer this question below.

I got into a stupid little flame war on craigslist the other night and the guy said he could find out my IP address from my craigslist posts. Is this true? Can someone actually get my IP from a CL post without hacking CL itself?

    Well, it would require getting some info from the CL servers. Whether or not it would require actual hacking though, I don't know since I've never tried it.

    I will say that CL does a good job of anonymizing so it might require them doing something of questionable legality to trace your IP unless you had direct e-mail contact with them.

    Also, it might require getting some records from the ISP to determine exactly which of their customers was using the IP they got at a certain time to get a name and address.

    Not impossible, but *damn* hard to pull off without a badge, and it probably would involve hacking CL, with all of the legal problems that would entail.
