Help answer this question below.
Keep them in seperate room while you are away. While getting them used to each other keep two litter boxes in the house in seperate areas. Two different water and food bowls. At feeding time it's good to put them on either side of a door. This way they can get used to their scents through the door. Eventually open the door a little bit. Soon they should be ok to eat in the same room together but still give them different bowls.
i have a female main coon and i also have worked at vet offices and know alot about animals. Main coons are usually and typically a one person cat, or they are affectionate with the entire family. If your cat is a one person cat and only interacts with you and has no intention on being friendly with others while you have company, dont take the other cat. Your cat now may end up turning on you and become nasty and snudish. If your cat is friendly then i would introduce them BEFORE the neighbor moves. Last thing you want is 2 cats that struggle to get along even after a wile of living in the same house, this will also help to decide if you deff. want to take that cat as a new family member
best of luck!
You should see how they get along before leaving them alone together, trust me.
first of all put two cans of cat food in an room and leave the two kats in the room for anout an hour so they can socialize then let them run round the house and let them be for the day then spend as much time with the new cat evryday
