As annoying as text talk is, and believe me, I think it's as annoying as anyone on Earth does, text messaging language doesn't make that person's issue/concern less valid. I'm probably biased, though, because I've seen those questioners get the royal reaming by a couple of mean-spirited Answerbaggers who simply want an excuse to beat up on people they perceive as younger, or weaker, or less intelligent than they are.

What I would do is lay down the law to people ASAP when they join: NO "TEXT TALK IN QUESTIONS." Maybe part of the problem is that new members don't know it's unacceptable.

No. Grammar though important is not really the whole point of this place. However, maybe emails asking when someone has given consistent crappy grammar to change a bit? Or perhaps in the flagging, we could have 'crappy grammar' to choose from so that it can get edited, though that might mean the staff get extra work

Debris - the new slimline version.

I think that as along as you can understand the question then it shouldn't be banned. Text talk is annoying but at least you can read it.

With regards to spelling - not everyone on here speaks English as there first language so I generally cut people some slack.

Sure we can ban people, who do not spell properly or use internet short cut or text talk. Then once we clean them up, we can work on banning those we feel that don't chew with their mouths closed.
My point here is that we live in a world full of people who are not just like you or me. Where do we draw the line?

Here at Answerbag the questions are plain to read, without clicking on them to answer. We have the option to answer only the questions that we like and skip over those we do not.

I would think that the owners of the sight designed it this way so if we see something we feel is annoying that we could just move to the next.

Rather than allow things to bother us. Why can't we just accept that not everyone is going to think and do like everyone else? How boring would life be if everyone did?

    I wouldn't do anything at all...I like puzzles..lol.
besides, I know how it is to type something that looks okay at first, then realize that I have made a pretty big screw up after it is too late to edit it.

People who insist on behaving in a willfully foolish or stupid manner should be treated with scorn, mockery and ridicule.  This includes people who post content in “text-talk” or otherwise are obvious about not making even a small effort to try to spell words correctly.  If they choose to act stupid, then that's how they should be treated.

I don't have too big of a problem with people who cannot spell properly--and no, I don't think they
should be banned. But I would not hold a conversation
with anyone text-talking or typing; not when you have
plenty space to type words in full. If one is using
a cell-phone or one of those text device, then I can
see the need for it, but I find it to be an idiocy and
annoying doing it in the computer.

No, everyone is good and bad at something. Not everyone is good at spelling and grammar so I don't think they should be banned from AB.

I do not like text talk and find it much more irritating than poor spelling.

The person still has a problem or requires the answer to a question whatever their level of English.

I think maybe they could try to use a spell checker and be told to not use text talk if they stay a member but certainly no reason to ban them.

With my bad typing and English spelling I am sure a lot of people think I cannot spell properly.

My thought, who cares and get over it, so people don't always spell a word rite that does not meen they should get banned for it...Of course it mite make their life a little easier if they did learn how to spell certain words correctly but more than likely not...

Why do so many people find it necessary to criticize other people for either an inability to spell, or for hurriedly typing, and making mistakes? As others have pointed out, many users are not native English speakers, nor writers. Also many people spell words differently. The world is many colours, and many voices. Why can't we all just try to communicate the best that we can? Text spelling is getting more and more common, and therefore more widely accepted. It's just a matter of time before many bits of text speak are absorbed into the vernacular. Figuring out what others are trying to say is an interesting mental exercise, use it as such.

No, banning is harsh for something as such. Ethnicity would be discriminated against if we did that. Text talk is probably good if someone wants to fit more into their question space though, although it is abused, and generally shows that the person doesn't know how to communicate with normal written words. This is a problem in society, but not one that should be punished. A re-education maybe, but not on here.

Nope. I say we leave them be. If they want to be understood, this can be a great outlet for them to learn how to spell so that other people can understand them properly.

Are you kidding? They give me some of my best comedy material! NO!

Q: If not, what would you do about them?

A: Mock and ridicule them into compliance - that's fun!

I think the AB site has the responsibility to make the rules and enforce them.

The QnA site I came here from had a "spell check" feature for questions and answers and I really do miss it everyday! +5 for your Q.

banning for spelling would be very hard because there is Yankee english and proper english spellings of words, as for texting spelling that would be hard as well since most of the younger generation don't know any better

I think questions should be spell checked automatically upon submission. Banniing may be too harsh, but I think at least sending notifications to those users would be helpful.
