You're reading Do you think the equipment worn by swimmers in the world titles or Olympics make much difference in the times they swim.

Yes it is really pulling some talk this time. Do you know how the suit assists the swimmer? Thanks for answering.

yeah the suits make the swimmer sit higher in the water and aid in the way water slips past the body, they are saying it will make some swimmers up to 3 seconds faster

I have been having some thoughts about this. Remember back when swimming costumes (as they were called) were made of wool and weighed about a ton wqhen wet? Time has gone on, swim suits have changed from heavy to very light. I was told women had to put up with the top half of the costume catching water and slowing them down. We have come a long way since then but, now we are arguing about what is fair. Let's jump ahead another ten years or so when swimmers will be wearing the latest in techknowlogy and older people (like us) cry (cheating). My point is, shouldn't we go along with the new styles (as they will be the norm) and just put it down to progress.

well why not go the whole hog and allow performance drugs?, the whole point of athletics is to test human endurance and strength and speed ...unaided!, todays thinking is so far from this its not funny .. its more to do with equipment than the athletes themselves
