Do you think there is a certain age that is too old for a Mother to keep breastfeeding? Under what age is it appropriate and after what age is it not appropriate? (I am just curious on people's view on this subject.)

• Yes, 6 years! It's silly to think that just because a child turns 1 or 2 that all of a sudden cow's milk is better for you.

• Good Answer, I would say 4. The reason why I say this is, I don't think a child should go to school still being breastfed. It might not be good for the child when they go in to school and it is time for milk, and they have to leave to go get Mommy milk. They would be made fun of so bad these days, it might impact their life dramatically. Nevets -- Is that the Star of David and a Yamaka on your avatar/image?

• If none of you has kids -just you wait til you do -this is all irrelevant. If you do, I feel sorry for them! Even animals dont continue feeding their young longer than necessary

• I have put the points back. However, its your opinion that is the mistake nevets, a pretty sick one at that.If/when you have kids of your own, tell your partner you'd like her to breastfeed till the child is around 6 -see what sort of reaction you get!!

• I happen to be a breastfeeding mother, and I most likely will not nurse my child till she is 6 (which is when she will start school), but I do agree this is a good age to put down your foot no matter what... Nevets is VERY logical and appropriate in this answer!

• I think what they mean is when the child has ALL their teeth. The reason why I say that, or assume that is because some children are born, YES born with a tooth or even a couple of teeth. So maybe when they get all their teeth, then that may be a good age.

• oh gosh yes. I was going to discuss a case like that that I heard about. That is abominable on the mother's part and, in my view, consititutes child abuse...that is not normal in any society.

• Your Husband nursing is different than a child who gets to be 12 years old, would you agree? or even a child who is 18 years old? That might qualify for incest if you breastfed for 15 plus years or whenever the child became knowledgeable of the woman's body, which nowadays the age that finds out about the human body goes down every year or so.

• No, I do not think this is ok because a child would most definatly have weaned by then, I think if either mom or child wants to re-introduce breastfeeding after the child has been weaned for a few years then the issue is not nutritional and needs to be addressed in another manner

• i think i would breastfeed for atleast one year before introducing cows milk. samual is my youngest and he has weaned him self, he is 14 months old. once in a while now he wants my breast but mostly for comfort when he does not feel good. children seem to have a way of growing and then regressing and then grow. to actually answer your question i would not go any longer them 18 months.

• I don't think breastfeeding for 5 years, or not breastfeeding at all is a crime. Some women can't breastfeed, and some can. If you can, you have the choice not too. You do not know the reasons why people don't and do. My Mother had three children, in which she started weening them off at 11 months, 10 months and 6 months. Yes, they say that breastmilk from the mother is the best that you can give them IF the Mother doesn't smoke, or do bad things (you know what I mean). I don't think either of you are at fault, and I congratulate both of you for raising your children. We (who have kids) all know that it is the hardest job on the planet, whether or not we chose to breastfeed. God Bless. Points for you.
