  • I do. I also think they are a big cause of road rage!
  • Agree, people might be going at the limit and be suddenly caught unaware of somebody going too slow...like the first poster said, it could also cause road rage
  • If he had been caught doing 40, I would wholeheartedly agree he was going too slowly and deserved a ticket. Seven MPH under the posted limit is NOT dangerously slow. People need to learn that the posted limit is intended to be the MAXIMUM, not the MINIMUM. The standard minimum is 15 MPH under the limit. According to the full account, the driver was in the process of speeding up from 55 to 65 and therefore was not breaking any law. In fact he said he believed he had just reached the point where the speed limit changed from 55 to 65 and was adjusting his speed accordingly. I'd be willing to bet that the state trooper was speeding himself and wrote the ticket out of pure road rage. That's not upholding the law; it's upholding lawlessness and stupidity. He should be fired and his driver's license should be revoked. I'm not saying I've never gone over the speed limit. If the rest of traffic is moving at between 5 and 10 mph over the limit most of us tend to go with the flow. However, if 7 mph over the limit is considered okay, you can't arbitrarily say that 7 mph under the limit is wrong. According to the letter of the law, 7 mph under is more legal than 7 mph over. If everyone else was speeding and this motorist was allegedly impeding traffic, a warning might have been in order, but if he was the only one obeying the law an $80 ticket is absolutely inexcusable. If I were him I would fight it all the way to the Supreme Court if that's what it takes. Public servants are hired to uphold the law and protect public safety, not to act on their own foolish whims to meet some illegal monthly quota of tickets. Yes, quotas are illegal but some departments have them, making it clear that it's about money, not safety. This motorist wasn't breaking any law known to man; he was just easier to catch than the speeders, and he doesn't deserve a ticket for that; the lazy cop deserves to be fired and blackballed from law enforcement for life.
