G'day GTAMaster, Thank you for your question. No, it isn't. In the 1920's, the Klan had a membership estimates at between 4-5 million men. It now has approximately 2,500 to 3,000 split amongst a number of groups with small organisation. It has been repudiated by all holders of all political and other leadership. Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia is the only elected politician to have ever belonged to it and has long since rejected it. The Anti Defamation League wrote in 2002 in their report "Extremism in America", "Today, there is no such thing as the Ku Klux Klan. Fragmentation, decentralization and decline have continued unabated." While activity has sparked a bit in 2006, the chances of the KKK returning to the level of influence it had at its peak is remote. Actually, in the last year, the KKK's membership has grown about 30% because of the Immigration issues. They now burn crosses on the lawns of Hispanic Immigrants. I don't know if they're gaining in numbers or not, but there wouldn't be much you could do to stop it in a legal sense. They're Constitutionally guaranteed the right to free association, same as anyone else. In a broader sense, there are any number of things you can do to promote racial harmony. The more racism becomes socially unacceptable, the fewer kids grow up to join the KKK. We've come a long way in the last 50 years, and there's a long way to go.

I sure hope that bunch of close minded simple people like that can't get really organized and do any damage.

With the two political parties in a gridlock, job losses to overseas countries, unlimited illegal immigration, and conflict between minorities for resources; the opportunity for "HATE GROUPS" to insinuate their influence into these gaps of fear is increasing as many people feel helpless to control their destinies. It is social chaos that always opens the door for extremist beliefs. "HATE GROUPS" are not unique to America. There are bitter folks in most countries who feel their only response to tyranny is violence.

The KKK has always been here. Alot of time the majority of them are inactive but they become active when they get stirred up. Very few of them are hardcore racist... We have a Klan town here that I've noticed is becoming more tolorant towards black people.

I once read somewhere that their membership numbered in the millions back in the twenties. So even with overwhelming numbers and support from local government they failed to stop the winds of change. With this in mind, what should you do?

If it is true that they are re-gaining power why did you stop here? The Black Panther Militia is also re-gaining power. Shouldn't they also be stopped?

Now a days they would be far to out dated, they do exist still but not so up front about it, Its a fact that racist people have to live with - There are black and white people, get over it!!!!

Of course the Klan is re-gaining power. Why would you want to stop it? The Klan will be around as long as conditions detrimental to whites are around and a double standard exists against white people. The Klan fights for your right of free speech and actions detrimental to white people, just like the ADL and AIPAC fight for Jews, and the NAACP fights for Blacks. Some say the lack of education and overty causes non-whites to turn to crime, and lack of oppurtunity. They say being made slaves affects their ability to function in society. I say bull! How then due to explain very wealthly people resorting to crime and violence, like OJ Simpson, Robert Mugabe, Jacob Zuma etc? How then would you explain white rural poverty? In the old days, white coal miners were nothing more than legalized slaves. The company owned the shack they called a house where they charged the miner rent. They owned the store where they charged the miner high prices for what goods he HAD to have. Once a man went to work for a company like that, he usually was theirs. He never got out of debt to them. In the old days they had orders to bring the mules out first in the event of a disaster. They used mules to pull the coal cars out of the mine. Mules cost the company money, men didn't the could hire another to replace them easy enough. Working in some of the most hazardous and dangerous conditions one can imagine, and living in the most deplorable environments, these noble people did not turn to crime, or drugs, or violent rap. They worked and they worked hard to survive and take care of their families. They didn't depend on the government to do it for them. The list is endless. Farmers struggling from before sun up to after Sun down, with the entire family helping, just to get by. Men working untold long hours just to take care of their families. Men not afraid of work. Men doing what they had to do to survive. Honestly, like Christian people have always done. The Klan represents these values. The world is still full of these same kinds of people today. Proud, hard working people not afraid to get their hands dirty. Not afraid of a little sweat and grime. Not backing down on their responsibility to take care of their own. What are these wonderful people getting for all they do? They are getting to have everything they do, buy and sell taxed to death. Taxes for illegal immigrants, who won't fight in their own country to make things better there but want to come here and live off of what our forefathers and we have done. Taxes to take care of and pay those who won't work, who are too "good" to take that kind of job, but not to proud to sit back and collect welfare each month. Taxes to pay for an out of control government fatcats paying themselves huge salaries and living a life of ease and luxury while those of us footing the bill are barely getting by. Taxes to pay for housing for some the most fiendish criminals on earth, because the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment. Taxes to pay for health care for those running our borders illegally, but who our dear elected officials think are entitled to everything and more than the very people who elect them to office and pay them. People, had better get it together and get it together quick before it's too late. Time is fast running out for us. The way of life we so cherish is being robbed from us an inch at a time. The "political correct" governments of the world are telling people the Klan is nothing more than a terrorist group, a hate group and a violent group.
