The phone, I suppose. I do most of my communicating with clients and friends by email. But I'd insist on keeping a cell phone. Email is a lousy way to call for help if your house is on fire!

E-mail. The phone is more immediate. As Jim says, you can't exactly e-mail 911 for help. Also, I'm very bad at checking my e-mail. Another reason is that the phone is more personal. I can actually hear the person's voice and tone. If you are missing someone badly, a phone call is more comforting than an e-mail. My father called me this morning to tell me my Aunt died. I would've hated to get that news in text on a screen.
