Are home schooled kids at a disadvantage when applying to a university?

    It was a surprise to me...the answer is often "no"... homeschooled kids are many times NOT at a disadvantage when applying to a university. Quite the contrary, sometimes they are at an advantage. Certainly they have developed a keen self-discipline and good study skills, and many times a high ethic level. A highly degreed teacher for over 27 years who is now with an academy (they also offer distance learning programs and home-school programs) gave me the information that homeschooled graduates often score better on college entrance exams and many universities actually may prefer them. Universities like Harvard are now accepting home schooled kids. However, many homeschooled graduates attend a junior college or community college prior to entering a university.

    I would say yes and no, yes for being that the students would lack out on socializing skills and no because they are more emphasized on the subjects that they dont comprehend.

    Sometimes yes. Some colleges, especially those that are highly selective, look for extracurricular activities ie student council, sports, math-letes. However this is far and few between so I would not worry about it.
