Why are some species of wild animals / rodents afraid when they see humans?

We are usually so much larger than they are, and instinctively, smaller creatures fear being killed and eaten by those "other creatures" who are much larger than they are. Just imagine if you were confronted by some creature (of this planet, or another) that was significantly larger than you. You would probably "back up a bit," too. +5
