If I'm reading your question right - you already had one computer at home that is connected to the internet and you want to connect your new laptop too - you need a router. You connect each of your computers to the router and the router to the internet connection. The router resolves what goes where.

You're reading Iv just bought a dell laptop and at home im useing broadband internet i know nothing about this sort of stuff and need to know what i need to get to make my internet so i can use my laptop with plugging the internet in?

You may want a wireless router so you can take your laptop from room to room. Wireless routers still have ports in the back to plug in a desktop computer, but a wireless router enables most laptops to connect to the router without plugging them in.
