What would be the best computer guts for a mechanical engineer major going to penn state? i dont want a macbook

anything with a dual core processor 2.0ghz or higher, 3gb ram, and atleast 160gb hdd.

also what is the price range. the 'best' would cost thousands, but anything in the 600-800 range will be enough
