He is no more reliable than anyone else who has a political agenda, like Rush Limbauhg, Bill O'Reilly, Al Franken or Bill Maher.

I think that Micheal Moore is brilliant and very talented. He is a hard worker and I think that he gets most of his details correct.

That said, I think that his style is what runs into problems, his delivery. The way that he frames things. In some way, I feel that he is immature in the way that he develops arguments. He loses his objectivity in developing his story. He allows his argument, which many times may be correct, in his zeal to present his views.
The result is that his films may be viewed as mere liberal propaganda, thus allowing his "target" an easy way out if the accusations that he casts on them.

I believe a lot of the information he provides us is reliable, but sometimes the way he presents it gives him this "holier than thou" presence.

Micahel Moore is such a talentless hack. How anyone can take this guy serious is beyond me.

I used to hate him. I have seen both Bowling for Columbine and Farenheit 911, I think he is trying to show us the ugly side of things we would rather not look at in our nice fuzzy bubble around us. He has got balls to walk right up to people and ask tough questions.

I think his facts are mostly reliable. He gets into some bias problems with context and ignoring evidence that doesn't support his conclusion.

michael moore has not convinced me, here is why-

I don't get my info on stuff like that from movies.?, I have fingers, and eyes I use for reading books, and wading through this waste-ridden al gore invention(not the manbearpig invention the other one).

One thing I find very consistent among friends and other people I have talked with on this subject before and after his films = they needed no more research, it was over they bought him.

His films didn't really look at the subjects, they choose a side and had their go at "information compilation" and editing [poor sportsmanship(ok the guy couldn't walk more than a couple miles, even if there was a KFC)]

almost anything can be made to look bad, really bad

Bet you I could make a video case against ___________

    -water
    -sun
    -children
    -teddy bears
-in home fish tanks(in the works)

I believe that you exposes problems in todays society almost purely for proffit. When Bowling For Columbine raked in a large amount of money, he refused to donate any to the Colombine Fund. Instead, he kept it himself.

Michael Moore is reliable within his personal agenda. He sees the world through his own perspective and is empassioned about it. I think that makes his productions slanted. They are still valuable, as long as one recognizes upfront that he is presenting facts in a way that supports his beliefs. It's one side of the story, and the same facts could be presented in a different light to support a different agenda. What is left out is often as interesting as what is put in!

I don't think he's "full of it", per se, but he is using his documentaries to present a very specific side of an argument in every case. Of course he is going to be selective about the information he presents, whether it is accurate (it is) or not.

It's a simple technique of presentation and statistics that has been used for centuries. If you're searching for information to present that supports a very biased point of view, you could "prove" just about anything. Ask anyone on any high school debate team.

I think Moore is a hard-working, resourceful, and ambitious director, but I also take everything he presents with a BIG grain of salt, knowing full well that he is really only addressing one side of any issue. He uses a conclusion to arrive at data, instead of the other way around.

THere are 2 sides to every story and many sides to every movie edit.

Watch "Michael Moore hates america" and then decide for yourself.

I believe the information he provides is accurate for the most part, his way of presenting it as entertainment takes away some of his credibility.

His information is based on facts, so that's always reliable. However, his analysis can be biased; depending on who you ask.

    Just another movie.
There are only two movies that I have seen that appear to get the known facts straight with minimal drama.
The Alamo, the one with Billy Bob Thornton and All the Presidents Men.
    99.9% is.................. "Hollywoooood!"

The one good thing that came out of Bowling for Columbine was K-Mart giving up selling ammunition. He does hold valid points but his delivery leaves something to be desired.

  • I'm not sure there is much need for my answer now Perryman has posted his, because that is pretty much everything I would have said. He (Moore, not Perryman!) allows himself to get carried away at times in his desire to bash whoever he is bashing and makes some daft assertions which tend to detract from the strong factual evidence he has presented and the strong case he is making. I have only recently watched Fahrenheit 9/11 and while he was factually accurate in pointing out connections between the Bush family, the Bin Laden family, oil companies and Saudi Arabia, he seemed to be almost arguing that George W Bush deliberately allowed 9/11 to proceed unchecked because he and his friends in the US and abroad stood to make a lot of money from the "war on terror" he could launch afterwards. Now I'm not a big Bush fan, but this is stretching credibility more than a little, and is a good example of Moore going one step further than the evidence allows him and ruining the strength of his case... as Perryman said, it allows his opponents to retort that it is all propaganda and speculation, and means that the real scandals he un-earths are not taken as seriously as perhaps they should be.

So yes, he is talented and I admire his determination to "fight the good fight"... however I wish he wouldn't keep shooting so many of his bullets into his own foot while he is fighting, because it does make him appear "full of it" on occasions when his s*** content is actually a lot lower.
