Frustration. My engine was way overheated, and some idiot was dawdling along, making every turn I needed to make right in front of me. Then to make matters worse, the water was turned off, and I needed to ask permission to cool it down. I still don't know if it did any permanent damage.

frustration, after answering calls all day for towels, which the rooms didn't have because "SOMEBODY" didn't have a laundry attendant scheduled on a day we were books solid, a full house.
no attendant = no clean linen = nothing for the housekeepers to stock the bathrooms with = me having to neglect MY JOB to do the laundry, fold hundreds of bath towels, hand towels, face clothes, etc and spend the entire second shift delivering them to all 180 rooms. meanwhile i get grief from another department head for MY JOB not being done and someone complaining about not having towels in the pool area (which i A. didn't have to spare and B. was assigned away from by my supervisor.)
i just walked out of the laundry into the parking garage and roared, scared the hell out of a couple of housekeepers out there smoking too.
it was either that or punch "SOMEONE" in the face.

I also learned today that the previous owner was running water instead of coolant. He HID that fact, as well as that it spent much time in Mexico, so a lot of emission control stuff was neglected.

Probably part of the reason it overheated. Water has a lower boiling point that an anti-freeze mix, and the corrosion it allowed decreases cooling efficiency. Was it a stuck thermostat, water pump failure, or broken belt?
You also have to be careful when squirting cool water from a hose onto a hot engine (cracking a head). As long as it was still running when you shut it off, odds are the damage wasn't too bad.
