Help answer this question below.

How can I tell if my platy fish is pregnant? I bought it 2 weeks ago and it looked pregnant. However, it has not grown much. Her belly looks a little round and not like the male. Is there another way to tell if she is pregnant other than by stomach?

    Um... I dunno. But I wish I'd thought of something like this question as a parody of "My boyfriend and I had sex, could I be pregnant?" questions on AB. :)

    If it's female and been keeped with a male recently then it's pregnent. They produce live young a few at a time and not like guppys that drop them all within a day or so..

    If you can look down on your platy fish from the top of the tank, look at her sides. 1 side will be very slightly fatter than the other side, if so she may be pregnant. Also with all livebearers, the stomach will begin to take a wide V shape as she is close to delivery as you look at the fish from it"s side.

    Well first off if there is a male tank mate then there is abotu a 90% chance she's knocked up. Second look for a Gravid Spot. This is a darker spot behind the belly usually redish brown in color. Third is she openly staying close to the male or is she chasing him off? If she seems to have no problem with him then she is either getting ready to get pregnant or she is just gotten that way. If she is chasing him off then most likely she is getting close to getting ready to give birth..
