G.R.O.S.S. is Calvin's anti-girl club. The name is an acronym that stands for Get Rid Of Slimy GirlS (Calvin admits "slimy girls" is a bit redundant, as of course all girls are slimy, "but otherwise it doesn't spell anything"). Based in a treehouse (with occasional emergency meetings inside a cardboard box), the main objective of G.R.O.S.S. club is to annoy, bother, and harass girls, although the club's only target is mainly Calvin's neighbor Susie Derkins. Calvin and Hobbes are its only members, and wear newspaper chapeauxes during meetings. Calvin and Hobbes spend most of their time in the club reworking its constitution and arguing about their bureaucratic roles and titles also planning missions and pranks on Susie. Because the club exists specifically to harass girls, they sometimes plan missions to do so. But the club, itself is very disorganized at times, and so far, had no sucessful attempts to bug Susie except for a few times when they have either partial successful missions or winning a moral victory. In addition it also showed a series of strips featuring Susie coming to Calvin's house. At that time he played a prank which included Hobbes, to lock up Susie in a closet which the most ever-known sucessful mission ever recoreded since the strips run (and also in the G.R.O.S.S. log book). But at times, in the strip, Hobbes would sometimes abandon Calvin in his missions and become "a wishing captive of the enemy" to Susie, as Calvin says. Nevertheless, after a mission they award themselves medals and promotions. Calvin is G.R.O.S.S.'s "Supreme Dictator for Life", and Hobbes is "President and First Tiger." They also dub themselves different various ranks for the appropriate situation (and frequently switch roles between their respective ranks/characters in a situation). In addition, in a single strip, it revealed that the club had their own anthem they sing after every meetings and missions. Although their anthem is generally unknown, it once showed Hobbes began to sing their anthem which began as: "Oh Gross, Best Club in the Cosmos..."
The G.R.O.S.S. club orginated one day during the strips mid-years when Calvin asked Hobbes if they could create a club for themselves. At first Calvin stated for his club should have a sercet name. Hobbes then decided to callthe club as "The Hobbes Fan Club". When Calvin said the club name should be something mysterious, he then dubbed the name, "The Sinister Icy Black Hand of Death Club". After deciding on a name, Calvin then settled it by calling their club, G.R.O.S.S., Get Rid of Slimy Girls, so that Susie wouldn't be able to join. After making newspaper chapeauxes, they began deciding what ranks to be in. After Hobbes became president, Calvin became king and tyrant, although in the later years, Calvin later was known as "The Supreme Dicator for Life".
Calvin: "I've got it! We'll call our club G.R.O.S.S. - Get Rid Of Slimy Girls! That way, Susie Derkins can't join!"
Hobbes: "Is she slimy?"
Calvin: "All girls are slimy. Now the first order of business is to elect officiers."
Hobbes: "I get to be president! I get to be president!"
Calvin: "Oh, no you don't! This whole club was my idea, so I get to be president."
Hobbes: "Ok, then I get to be king and tyrant."
Calvin: "Hey, no! That's what I want to be! You can be president!"
At one time when Calvin and Hobbes cooked up a prank on Susie, their objective was then to make a fake "coded" message, in which it was actually a message spelled backwards and upside down on a piece of paper. The message was to lead Susie to Calvin's house where Calvin and Hobbes could throw waterballoons at Susie. But when Susie had not appeared, Calvin went to look for Susie when he was surprisingly attacked by Susie and soaked up with a water hose. Then it ended Calvin getting all wet and vowing that the war goes on and they were going to get revenge on Susie. Later, it showed Calvin's mom bring lunch to him along with some comic books. Then it finally ended Calvin eating sandwiches and reading comics with Hobbes all afternoon.
