Help answer this question below.

I installed some programs on my PC that don't require the cd to run after it's been installed. I installed those same programs on my Mac, but it seems as if it needs the cd to run. Anyone know why this might be or if there's something I can do to fix it?

My laptop randomly started failing to even notice that my cd r/w dvd rom drive is Installed. What possible steps could I take to make it a useable drive? Most of my programs that I run require the cd. I am on an Alienware custom laptop, running XP Pro.
