i think that would depend on the rating and location.
They're as safe as you are - keep the door locked, check the windows, if you are a single woman traveling alone do not get a first floor room with a sliding glass door, don't open your door for anyone, etc. etc.
define "safe". If it's 5 star, I bloody well hope it's safe in every way.
Just safe enough to spend the night there and move on the next day.
