Unless the child has a medical condition...yes. You can control what types of foods and drinks come in your home. That is so sad...

I think so, in a sense anyway. Unless they have some kind of thyroid condition if the parent is letting them eat whatever whenever and allowing them to play video games all day then they are definitely harming their children. I could never let my kids get that way, not just because of their health but for their self-esteem.

Of course. You feed the child. Why wouldn't you feed the child healthy food. I'm not saying never give them junk food, just not 24/7.

yes..you are poisoning your child, ensuring diabetes, heart disease, among other heath related issues..they will also be ostracised by their peers, resulting in poor self esteem, which will ultimately lead to a less than productive life. i think you set the bar too high as far as actual weight..a child who is even 150lbs is too fat.. parents need to stop feeding their kids crap, and go outside and play with them..and if you dont have time to make a proper meal, and provide adequite physical activities, you need to reevaluate what is important, a new mercedes, or a healthy happy child, that YOU wanted to be responsible for in the first place.

Well I don't think it's possible for a 10-year old to become 400 pounds...I guess it depends on how old they are.
But yes, I would consider it child abuse.
If your child dies from obesity wouldn't you, the parent, the one who goes grocery shopping, be responsible?

I would say yes. They are the ones who's responsible for the child's wellbeing and being obese is not being well at all. Funny thing too, when the obese child get 'bullied' at school about how he/she looks, its the parents who want to press charges against whoever, but its them who put the child in that position of being 'bullied'. I cant handle it when I see perfectly build mom and dads with really big kids. Sometimes these parents just dont have time for the kids and rather put a note or two or take-aways in their hands to make them (the parents) feel less guilty. Just my personal opinion.

Yes. Many children are a bit chubby and there's nothing wrong with a child being a bit overweight, but unless there is a specific medical problem causing them to be obese then you are helping to give your child present or future health problems, and helping to possibly shorten their life significantly.

Yes, the parent is responsible for what their child becomes.

Of course it is. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.

I don't know about abuse, but you can certainly argue abusive neglect. Some parents will argue that people will feel that way because the child is different. That's BULLSHIT. A poor diet resulting in obesity weighs against the child's health.

Yes. Unless the child has some severe medical condition which has led to the weight gain.

I think that parents with obese children, just like parents who starve their children, should have their children removed from their care. They obviously are incapable of caring for them adequately.
