The Minoan civilization, a Bronze Age civilization, arose on the island of Crete and flourished from approximately 3000 to 1000 BCE. The ideal location allowed the Minoans to develop a broad sea trade network. They developed a two crops system: olive and grapes. They used olive and grapes to trade for items such as gold, tin and ivory. Knossos was the Minoans largest city and center of government. The Minoans lived a peaceful existence on their remote island until they were invaded and destoryed most likely by the Mycenaeans.
