When did 'disrespect' become a verb? (to disrespect someone?). I always thought that it was a noun or an adjective. Was I wrong?

Another coined word of recent years, also shortened and slanged to "dissing" somebody. It may be given as a possible verb in some modern dictionaries, but I don't think you will find it as such in any published more than ten years ago. I 'dislike' such words (smile). Nevertheless, common usage is how words come into being.

Love this question! That annoys me too. It is most definitely a noun, adjective, or in the case of 'disrespectfully', an adverb.

Yes, you were wrong. "Don't disrespect your father!" <---It was always a verb. To be disrespectful = adj. It is also a noun...........it's three in one.

Ever since the time of Shakespeare, we have been making nouns into verbs, adjectives, and all manner of words. Is "to disrespect" really so odd when we consider the verbs "to glue" or "to mop"? It seems like using glue or using a mop is quite similar to using disrespect when talking to someone.
