  • Growing up in a small cage could be a reason. But all dogs turn around in circles before they lay down. This is a instinct to check th' ground for rocks or lumps and to mash all the grass an sticks down in one direction so it is comfortable (from back before carpets and dog beds were invented). It also causes their coat hair to all lay flat in one direction so they don't get a bad hair day. ;-)
