Someone has told me that it is ridiculous to reply 'Thanks' to every answer I receive on AB. Your opinion?

I most often try to make a personal comment, but there is not enough time in the day. If not, I'll say thanks to let the person know I read the answer and appreciate it (unless it's totally inappropriate). When someone does not leave some type of comment or thanks for my answers, I feel they're just in it for the points or just can't be bothered, and I will most likely not answer any more of their questions. +6

Mind you, I also find it incredibly irritating if I answer a question which asks for an opinion, as this one does, by giving my opinion, and my answer is downrated! In fact, that is more than irritating - that is, in my opinion, downright rude. What is the point in downrating someone for doing exactly what the questioner asked????

Thanks dea. I won't ever down rate for an opinion - they gave what I asked for. An answer to a question for info would have to be vulgar and way off the mark for me to down rate it - I haven't received any of those.
A simple 'Thanks' comment would have been received with a chuckle:)

No, not necessarily. People are here to answer questions. It's our 'duty,' so to speak. You don't need to thank them for that. If the answer is especially helpful to you, then thanks should be due.

I hand out a trophy to my hostess by saying Thanks whether the meal was truly good or not. That's just me.
My behavior on AB is just me.
It's not meant to dilute the truly good answers.

If you give an answer and it isnt acknowledged you wonder why you bothered. My thought for the day, on my profile says "if you dont want an honest opinion I am the wrong one to ask" or words to that effect.

They may not acknowledge an answer because they weren't notified of the answer - an AB glitch. I had 1 answer listed on my feedback today but had 4 new answers to the question.
I prefer honesty - an opinion can not be right or wrong so why fabricate.

I have just found out how to check my answers.not on feedback but on the small list accross the top clicked answers and there they all were together with the points or not they were awarded. Cant see it now in this screen will go and look.

I got it now. Clicked on answers, next to my profile pic, then in that screen there is a list accross the top, watchlist, etc, includes answers.Not the tabs small print, it looks greyed out but if you click on any of the headings they are active. Answers displays all your answers together with status, active or awarded points. only found it testerday been wonder,ing where to find them.

Another tip : when you ask a question if you want to answer in the order they were answered - under the pink question box is rate and date. Answers are listed by points but you can click date and answer them in order. Not an important feature to some but is to me.

That is a glitch I got a few days ago when I tried to post a question. It posted the question twice - once with a link and once without. Try again in a day or so. I doubt the file has gone the way of the dodo. Glitches come and go.
I don't know how long it has been inaccesible nor how long it will take to return. Did you report it ?

No, I haven't reported it, I just found out a few hours ago. Where is the best place to report it you think? There is a link "let us know" in the content of the File not Found", it sends you to where you rate the website on a scale of 1 to 10 and then enter your comment I think. I didn't use it. I report things in the "comment" area below "Answerblog". I guess the other place is to send it to admin@answerbag.com. Is there another place?

I haven't completed my exploration of AB but those are the only ones I recall seeing. I would think the "let us know" on the File not Found page would be the better one. I haven't reported any of the glitches - I'm not comfortable enough with computers to be sure I haven't done or not done somthing to cause a glitch. Sounds like a silly reason even to me.

If you meant that you shouldn't think that you could have caused a glitch, I think you are right, since a glitch shouldn't result from just regular people using any site normally. You can't sound foolish, If I am doing it anyone can.

Booknight, Was or is there an automatic way of knowing on which of your questions and or answers there has/have been activities on siince the last time you checked, or do you always go by your notification by email?

I think notification by email is iffy at best. You can 'manually' check. Click on your avatar - it will take you to your profile page. Bookmark or add it to your favorites. Then you can go to it to check activity. Go to your profile page - click on Q&A - click on Feedback. It will tell you if you have a new answer or comment and when it was made.
You will not be signed in to AB when you check that way. It only takes a few minutes.
I am not asking or answering questions on AB any longer but I check my profile page to see if I need to comment....like I just did on your question/comment.

Booknight, I hope you will always be there. You are valuable.
"Recent Activity" might be better title for it, instead of Feedback though.
If I can ask you one more thing, I never indicated (how do you indicate it anyway?) that I want questions to watch for. Once or twice I have gotten notification about some question I answered, that I am supposedly "watching".
BTW when you say "You will not be signed in to AB when you check that way", what do you mean? Am I not signed in already since I go from my profile?

answerbagy, I misspoke when I said profile page - it is your Member page. You don't have to be signed in to access your Member page. All of the Member pages are public....anyone can access them without being signed in or a member of AB. This is the page I told you about in the previous comment.
Your Welcome page is private and you have to be signed in to access it. Did you edit your watch list on your Welcome page ? It is the middle section. You can choose which questions you want to be notified about. You click edit and check the boxes you aren't interested in and click delete. But as I said the email notification is iffy. I have received 3 emails for 2 answers and another time I received 2 emails and had 6 answers. So even if you edit your watch list you might not get notified by email. This may be a problem/glitch that has been fixed or will be.
I check my Member page daily so I'll be here to answer :) I'm glad you value my input.
