Does the Home Run Derby spoil a player's swing?

    I think it does because they are swinging for home runs and not just to advance the runner. In regular games, they don't always swing to hit one out of the park. I'm sure after a while, their arms get tired, shoulders hurt, etc.

    That is why lots of HR hitters don't participate in this competition.

    You sure would think so wouldn't you. It seems like a lot of the contestants or winners have a downslide in stats afterward. There must be something to it.
