In Ground Effect Hover (IGE Hover) is when the helicopter hovers using the ground as a cushion to slow the airflow down through the top of the rotor system causing the aircraft to use LESS power when hovering. As the airflow passes through the rotor system the ground interference also reduces the blade tip vortexes which are circular movements of air on the blade tip on the opposite axis of the main rotor blade. Hopefully I explained that well enough, I can upload a picture if you need one.
In Ground Effect Hover: Hovering close to the ground (normally within ½ a rotor disk). This improves hover capability due to the "cushion" of high-density air that is formed by the ground improves the lift capabilities of the rotors.
