I would go to http://www.linux.org/dist and download a nice version FREE. Reformat the hard drive and never worry about virus's ever again. Virus's don't run on Linux...betcha didn't know that didja?
How many of you buy just an anti-virus program like Norton Anti Virus, instead of buying something like Norton INTERNET SECURITY?

I am attempting to reinstall my Norton Internet Security 2008. I keep receiving:

Is it safe/will it damage my computer if I remove Norton PC checkup through the Add/Remove Programs list? It acts more like spyware than anything else on my computer, it's useless and annoying :/

I need to install Norton disc on my laptop before the free trial runs out - do I go through the Install/Remove programmes route.

You're reading Help with Norton Internet Security 2009! I had this program on my Laptop it came with my Laptop I bought the comp in September of 08 I remember updating Norton not to long ago but now the program appears to not be on my comp and I know I did not delete it

I think this is all WAY beyond the guy with the Norton problem. Downloading and installing Linux - and finding equivalent desktop programs - is really not a solution for him, is it?
