If you had a skin condition called " tinea versicolor ", and you had tried everything to get it to go away, but nothing worked, and someone told you that fresh urine would kill it. Would you try that, or is it just to gross.

tinea versicolor (pityriasis versicolor) causes, symptoms and skin fungus treatment. Over the counter treatments include Selsun Blue and ketoconazole shampoo which seem to be designed to help.

- Yes I know very well what it is. I have been trying to kill it for years. I have used Selsun Blue and ketoconazole shampoo, I have used prescription meds. Everything they have come up with. Someone told me fresh urine would fade it extremely fast and kill it off. I was trying to find someone that has tried this gross method. To see if it is true.

There is a prescription strength 'Selsen blue' type shampoo/soap along with an oral pill that one needs - with prescription.

If that didn't work then one does not have tinea versicolor.

- Oh I do have it. It does not work for me. It has been diagnosed by 4 dermatologists. I could see one maybe 2 misdiagnosing but 4?

- Its not that far off of a possibility. Tinea versicolor is often confused with vitiligo or pityriasis rosea or Guttate psoriasis (there are several other disorders from fungal infections to genetic issues).

  While each are known to have tell tale separating symptoms in general terms, an individual can have either of these and it can appear exactly the same.
  .
  Doctors treat by selecting the most common ailment and working down a list. Most often this is done based on symptoms alone, further tests are done when the most common ailment is ruled out. While we could test exactly for everything it is not done due to time and expense.
