Was the Monty Python movie "Life of Brian" banned in some countries?

    The film was apparently banned in both Norway and Ireland for a time, though it is no longer banned in either country. According to IMDb, a movie info site, the film was banned in Norway until 1980 (only one year) as it was deemed blasphemous. The same was the case in Ireland, though that ban (on the theatrical release of the film) remained in effect for eight years.

    Yes, even some areas in Britain (Aberystwyth being the only one I know about). I think it was banned in 38 council areas in total. Countries wise, it was banned in South Africa, Ireland, California (which is a part of America) and Norway to name a few. Although the Pythons spun the Norway ban to their advantage. When advertising the film in Sweden, poster of Life of Brian read "So funny they banned it in Norway".
