Yes, it is a great idea. You could learn a lot.
Some countries are more dangerous than others, though, so it would be better to inform yourself about the country and the risks, particularly for women.
I traveled in various European and North African countries either alone, or with someone else that did not have more experience than I did.
Please ponder that travelling in your own country can also be dangerous, sometimes.

I think, so long as a person is responsible and prepares, it is one of the best decisions a person can make in life. The effect it can have upon your knowledge, personality and your future is phenomenal.
There is danger everywhere, but travelling alone rarely ends up lone travelling, since travellers always meet with other travellers on the way.
