It could be an alert that your brake pads are worn out and need to be relined. On some models, disc brakes are designed with a "noisemaker" that squeals when you depress to brake pedal to alert you to that condition.
Just had your brakes serviced recently, and they're squealing? Then you need your rotors resurfaced. If the mechanic who serviced your brakes (you included, Mr. Do-It-Yourself) did not properly seat the pads after replacing them, then you glazed the rotors after a few brake applications. This not only makes an annoying sound, but will prematurely wear out your new brakes.
Return your vehicle for warranty service.

My brakes did this and I worried that the pads needed replacing, but when I took the car to a mechanic he said there was just a buildup of dust and debris on them and they just needed a bit of a wipe, took 30secs for free! He did say the sound was the same as if they did need to be replaced though so make sure you get it checked out.

sometimes when new pads are fitted they will squeal anyway. If the brakes are OK, try greasing the back of the pads with a high melting point grease or copper grease BUT don't get any on the friction material which touches the disc or your brakes won't work. Also try to avoid touching the brake friction material with your fingers cos the grease from your skin can affect it aswell
