If you bought a vehicle and plan to sell it do you have to get a new title or can you take the signed title and new buyer to the dmv?

    Depends entirely on the state. There are certain situations where that is perfectly acceptable. If you are trying to avoid a tax, (sales or income) then you can get in trouble for it.

    You have to get a new title; taking the signed title and a new buyer to the DMV is called "jumping title" and it is illegal.
