You should allow them to give you an attorney to help you. But you can prepare all the evidence and look up certain things pertaining to search and seizure and evidence. along with things that would question the credibility of the witnesses. You could come up with things that might make certain evidence inadmissible and so on.

But you should have an attorney to help you with the finner points and it would also make you look better to the judge. That is more important than you could imagine, the judge is supposed to be non partial but look at the statue, she has a blindfold.

If you did rape someone then rot in hell, if not I hope you work hard and find some information and loopholes in the law to help you.

Yes, a public defender will be appointed to you free of charge. It's in the Miranda Rights. And I'd take it, too! You do NOT want to defend yourself with such a serious charge, Perry Mason. The prosecutors will eat you alive. Good luck.

Unless you have a law degree, or a lot of time on your hands, to learn the law -- I don't think self-representation is a good idea... but you never asked for advice... so here are two links I found about self-help/self-representation in Georgia courts:

You will always be appointed a Public Defender. He who represents himself in a courthouse is a fool. Judges will twist your arm to accept counsel because they want their court run orderly. If you are adamant that you want to represent yourself, I would ask the judge if he or she would appoint a pd to you. This person could deal with legal issues as they arose, and tell you what the proper objections are, etc. Good luck.
