Fasting is NOT starving. It's a choice, a declaration that the purpose of the fast outweighs ones need or desire for food or whatever the fast involves. God honors this recognition on our part that our belief/desire for Him is greater than our desire for more of what this world offers. And it's more than just Muslims who fast.

Did Allah ask you to fast? How do you know this is what he wants? Because a lot of people told you???

Christians are supposed to fast. The only reason the Apostles didn't was that they were in the presence of the Bridegroom. Jesus said, "WHEN you fast..." It is expected.

Fasting is also good for the body.

This is a fallacious premise. Muslims do not starve for god; they eat huge feasts each night. Fasting is common in many religions.

It is not for done strictly for god; it is to remind people that they are more than just bodies, that there are more important things than their bodies. Ramadan is a time when Muslims concentrate on their faith and spend less time on the concerns of their everyday lives. It is a time of worship and contemplation.

Well said Merry 1, lucid answer. There are books on benefits of proper fasting.
.
A good time to meditate, contemplate and find peace.
.
Also a chance for your body to self heal. After you eat your stomach demands a large blood supply to carry away the food protein, weather you need it or not.
.
During fasting your body has time to work on the well being of the whole.
.
I need a nap after posting this comment.

Its to show that you are willing to not eat for a certain amount of time to show your love for god. Its not unhealthy because its just for a small amount of time. Most dont give up all forms of food for more then one day.

I love how you keep asking questions which you think specifically deride Islam, but in fact, deride all three of the Abrahamic religions.

Christians and Jews fast as well; in fact, some denominations of Christianity call for fasts which last much longer than the daily fasts done by Muslims for Ramadan.

People are not really starving, a little fasting is good for you.

It would be better if they worshipped Jesus than Allah because He is the Son of God.

But Allah IS God.

How can Jesus a normal, living, air-breathing mortal, just like you, remove your problems or give you anything you wish for. Just because he was given some miracles doesn't mean that he has the power to make a world exact the same way or better then what Allah constructed and run it. Nor Jesus can write even a single verse like that is given in Gospel, Torah or Koran. Allah is our creator and Jesus is also Allah's creation, and only Allah can do these impossible things happen Thus HE IS THE ONLY ONE TO WHOM WORSHIP IS DUE

One, they don't fast long enough to hurt themselves; two, fasting makes the body cleanse itself, so it really is a good habit; and three, it is a reminder that one of the greatest destroyers of a man's dignity is excess, and that the cure for this is moderation and light asceticism. This is just a secular answer, regardless of what Muslims believe. It's good for us.

If, and that's a big if, God exists as Allah, he probably isn't happy to see his people groveling like this. I bet he tries to tell them from time to time, but Hell, there's a war on.
