Yes, I'm running it as a VM on my Linux system. First impression is that it style very closely matches that of KDE - http://www.kde.org/

Start scratching the surface, and you'll see its just Vista with a different skin. There are still all the usual "windows-waits", while it "prepares to configure", "applies your personal settings" or the new one - "preparing to recycle". Yes folks, in order to delete a 1k file can take minutes while it prepares to do so, spin an animation, and generally do anything other than the operation you asked for...

Try opening "paint" and you'd be forgiven for thinking you'd opened Word 2007. After your brain has fried, you just want to close it and run. It comes with barely any other software - a calculator, notepad (a basic text editor), a "snipping tool", sound recorder, sticky notes, a much needed (but awful) filesystem defrag, a few basic games and a backup utility that lets you die of old age.

It also can't localise, thinking that people in the UK would like to "personalize" rather than personalise.

On the bright side, they have got rid of the awful "sidebar"!

Overall, its a bit of a failure, but not as big a failure as Vista - that would take some doing!

And the "UAC" improvements... where rather than turn the screen grey and halt operations with a prompt, it simply hides a blinking icon on the program bar. Great. It still gets me every time .. "why is this program not working?"... "oh, there is that stupid blinking icon. again".

By all means, let me think for you.

Oh yes, it knows so much better than me. Of _course_ I want to do something ridiculous... I just didn't know it!
