Try reinstalling your sound card drivers.
If that doesn't hel, you your sound card is broken.. which I doubt..

All the above/below are good answers, but did you try my overall favorite cure-all of restarting your computer? This often (not always) solves random problems like this...

I still have XP. One thing someone told me, who worked on computers
and other equipment, is that it is a good idea to NOT mess around
with the computer sounds in the audio control panel. I
don't know if you did that,
but you may have.
So I asked this person, well, they give you these options for changing
the sounds. Well, MS should NOT have given the option to change the
sounds, like the shutdown sound, or the ID sound the desktop makes
when the PC restarts. All of those sounds are controlled within the
system32 section of Windows. The OS of Windows. So I leave mine
alone, and if you did change the Windows sounds you may have lost
your sound altogether.

i have altered my sound settings in vlc media player and to no avail the sound is really bassy and i cant get it back to normal.

You're reading I have no sound on my computer. it was working yesterday and now its not. Its pluged in , its not muted, and its turned up. Idk whats wrong. And i tried pluging in my head phones to see in my speakers were bad and they didn't work either. help?
