Okay, I'm going to go back a little farther than most will remember ... but, Dragnet was the best !! Just the facts ma'am !! :)
I have seen just about everyone, but Agatha Christies Hercule Poirot is my favorite.
Quincey or Colombo
How about 21 Jump Street!!! I watched that as a teen and LOVED it!
+4
I have to go with Columbo starring Peter Falk.
Law and Order Criminal Intent
Law and Order
Everyone has their own opinion, but I like Monk the best.:)*+++++*
Magnum PI was one of my favorites
csi miami.
Kojak. He really had that "Who Loves Ya Baby" down, and I always wanted to know what flavor his sucker was.
"The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" as adapted by Granada Television.
Quincy
Veronica Mars in a landslide
I have only seen snippets of CSI and Law and Order but one of these days I am going to sit down and watch the whole series from start to finish with a big, BIG bar of chocolate! +4
"Monk" is great. But I was also addicted to "Columbo" and "Hercule Poirot". For pure entertainment, I would still vote for Inspector Clouseau. Sellers was the greatest,.. "I suspect..no-one,..I suspect..everyone!" (lol)
Get smart
The Equalizer
and ... The Saint.
Colombo!
The Hardy boys & Nancy drew mysteries.
I really enjoyed "Twin Peaks" - but once the girl's murderer was (at loooooonnnng last!!) revealed, it really did lose its "luster" and was never the same for the short duration it lasted after that. Still - for that time period, back in the late 1980's, I glued myself to the TV set each week when it was on! I didn't want to miss a single show. It was gripping and kept me riveted to the screen - so that would still have to be my choice, also because I think about it from time to time, never having forgotten it, it had that much of an effect. Will have to rent it sometime!! My current favorite is "Law and Order" and its various categories (Criminal Intent; Special Victims Unit; etc.); yet I don't really like how that one main guy is sooooo "full of himself." He bugs me; and it bugs me how fast they manage to turn up correct clues and leads; yet I watch it anyway because I like a lot of the storylines and I have to admit I like the fast-paced way it moves!!
Baretta + 5
For the longest time it was Matlock and Columbo. I think I would have to add Monk to that lineup now. If I really really really had to chose only one, it would be Columbo.
i think that is csi and case closed
Starsky & Hutch.
Columbo stands out in my mind as a goodie.
Quincy Jones.. M.D. he even though a M.E. was a great detective.
So many to choose from!
Kojack
Banachek
Barretta
Hawaii 5-0...
Rockford Files
Remember "Charlie's Angels"?
That wasn't it!
;-)
Columbo.
Law & Order
Don't know about the best but the original CSI for a while had me hooked like no other Cop/detective show ever did.
Psyched!!!
NCIS is best tv series of all time. I have also watched this drama.
the rockford files.
Rebus - just for a change it's as good as the books.
Morse
NCIS,I have been enthralled with it since it hit syndication, the new episodes are ok,but I liked the first and second crew more than the latest ones.
Homicide: Life on the streets! I will tell you why; they used notepads at crime scenes and when they talked to suspect, witnesses, and victims. One thing real detectives have are, pens, paper, and a mini-recorder, no explanation needed!!!!
I dont know if Monk counts as a detective...but he figures out stuff pretty well, so it makes him a detective to me...so i would have to vote for Monk. lol
My favourite was Jonathan Creek. The main character was a stage magician who lived in a windmill. It was funny, and extremely clever.
Agatha Christies Poirot, nothing better
Colombo
The Streets of San Francisco, Kojak and Colombo. I also liked The Sweeney, a cop show set in London in the 1970's about the Flying Squad.
Naked City and M Squad...
did i already say DEXTER???
I would have to say Dragnet. Also Perry Mason which doesn't quite qualify as a detective show but it did have detective work within the story. I still watch Dragnet on Hulu.
Vegas starring Robert Urich. He was also in Spencer for Hire.

I've added a video clip for you. It's part 1 of 5, the rest can be found at YouTube. The main character, Sargent Joe Friday, was famous for his line ... "Just the facts, ma'am !". ; )

Yes: Watch it often, and even listen to the old Radio show.

Hahaha I used to tune into the stations that played the old radio shows, as I trucked through the night. They were great company for me. :)
