Why do Americans say "Happy 4th of July" instead of "Happy Independence Day"? Have we already forgotten that it's not the date we're celebrating, but the day we became an independent country?

    I sometimes think that if we couldn't shoot of fireworks, we wouldn't celebrate at all, but then I'm somewhat cynical.
